Driving down S Congress the other day, I laughed out loud in my car (all by myself) as I passed by this The Great Outdoors marquee, reminding us that being a grown up isn’t as cool as we all thought it would be when we were youngins’. Keeping watch over the Hwy 183, East Anderson Lane, North Lamar corridor, stands a pink gorilla. Originally, I thought the gorilla was a statue of Pinky’s Pagers mascot, a pink gorilla that was left behind when Pinky’s closed down (pagers, they were so 1990…), but I have been trying to research where it came from and cannot find anything on the ape. So other than ‘keeping Austin weird,’ I have to ask… what’s with the pink gorilla?
