The Skies at Night…

They say everything is bigger in Texas…

Returning to Austin from a long road trip, I took note of how tall the sky was as soon as I crossed the state line. No matter if you are in the hill country or in Downtown Austin, you look up and you see a sky that is open, deep and huge, reminding you how small you actually are in the grand scheme of things.

The stars at night,

Are big and bright,
Deep in the Heart of Texas,
The prairie sky,
Is wide and high,
Deep in the Heart of Texas.
The sage in bloom,
Is like perfume,
Deep in the Heart of Texas,
Reminds me of,
The one I love,
Deep in the Heart of Texas.
The coyotes wail,
Along the trail,
Deep in the Heart of Texas,
The rabbits rush,
Around the brush,
Deep in the Heart of Texas.
The cowboys cry,
“Ki-yip-pee-yi,”
Deep in the Heart of Texas,
The doggies bawl,
And bawl and bawl,
Deep in the Heart of Texas.

You clapped, didn’t you?… I did.
