Today I made a conscious decision to not use my car. I’ve made mention of high pedestrian-ism in Austin and decided it was time to put myself up to the challenge. I have not been in my car once today… save to open it to retrieve my iPod before I went on my run this morning (but I am willing to discount that if you are).
Getting around only by bike was easy and I felt (and being hyper-sensitive to my surroundings… especially the large, loud trucks) like the auto commuters took note and respected my presence on the road.
Not only did I get in some great workouts, chisel away a little bit of my carbon footprint and follow through with the challenge to myself, I was able to put to practice a great aspect of Austin and why we love it… being a pedestrian.
